Strike a Pose!

We were thrilled to be part of the Fabulous Fashion Fete, a fun party to rock the opening of the Irving Penn, Beyond Beauty, photography exhibition at the Wichita Art Museum. We designed hairstyles and costumes, to mimic works by Irving Penn, one of the 20th-century masters of photography, whose work spanned commercial and artistic genres. Organized by the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the photography show is on exhibit at the Wichita Art Museum through February 4, 2018.

We Are Honored!

Planet HairWe’re excited to announce that we’ve been selected to two very big honors! We’re being honored by the Wichita Arts Council  for their Arts Advocate Group or Business. We’ve also been selected by the Wichita Business Journal as one of ten 2016 honorees for the small-business Best Places to Work for the second year in a row!

The Arts Council award is for an organization or business that is dedicated to furthering the cause of an art form or the arts in general through promotional, volunteer, administrative, legislative or professional efforts. We were selected for this award for the extravagant fashion shows the Planet Hair team have created, benefiting charity and arts organizations. From 1993 to 2012, we produced the ArtAID event, raising over $1.5 million to help people living with HIV and AIDS in our community get resources, education and support. The event included a live and silent auction, made possible through the contributions from the area’s top visual artists and art patrons. Our team created elaborate hair styles, make-up, and costuming and incorporated the talent of local and national dancers, musicians, and actors, to create a show that was entertaining and breathtakingly beautiful.

Since retiring from ArtAID, we’ve continued to be active in our community, creating hairstyles and wigs, costumes and choreography for artistic runway shows benefiting charity and arts organizations. We helped the Wichita Art Museum celebrate the grand opening and first anniversary of their incredible Art Garden, and helped raise money for Aveda’s Give to the Earth Foundation with the EarthQUAKE show, featuring wigs and costumes made of recycled materials. We love being selected for the Best Places to Work, because this honor comes to us from our staff. Our awesome team filled out surveys administered by Quantum Workplace about how they feel about working at Planet Hair. We’re very honored they think we’re the best. We’ve all worked together to create an atmosphere and culture that we can look forward to when we come to work every day. We love working with such a professional, talented team of people who are dedicated to working together toward a shared commitment to style, our community and the world. Our dedicated guests give us the privilege to do what we do. We are winners indeed!

Wichita Art Museum Art Park Anniversary
Saturday, September 24 from 5 to 8 pm

We are honored to be invited back to participate in the Wichita Art Museum first anniversary party of the grand opening of their beautiful Art Garden. We had so much fun last year creating botanical hair styles for the opening party; we can’t wait to show you what we have planned for this year’s celebration! We’ve been challenged to come up with fashions that coincide with the opening of the new fall exhibit, Shiny, Sticky, Smooth: Pop Art and the Senses, so you know it’s going to be good. Evening festivities start at 5 pm with local food trucks and fun in the garden. We go on at 7 pm, with surprise musical entertainment to follow. The event is free, open to the public and includes free admission into the museum to see the new exhibit, so there’s no reason not to be there.
